Wahoo Fishing Tactics around Puerto Rico
Wahoo fishing is one of Capt. Frank’s favorite species to target. These fish are super aggressive and will hit just about anything you troll behind the boat. Trolling Medium to large ballyhoo on weighted skirts produce the best. Some of our favorites are 3 oz Joe Shutes in Pink / White and Islander Lures in Blue / White with Flashers. Its always a good idea to have a black and red mixed in too. Some days they really focus on certain colors. While trolling we often run at least 2 rigs on planners and inline weights. Wahoo are famous for eating baits that are run deep. For this type of fishing we use 50 class Penn International reels with 80 pound line. You never know when a Blue marlin might take the bait as well ! When available we also live bait small tuna for Wahoo. This will produce some real smokers !
