Offshore Sportfishing Charter
Sportfishing tours in Rincon, Combate, Aguadilla and Cabo Rojo
Snapper - King - Triggerfish - Grouper - Wahoo-Mahi-Tuna-Marlin
Just to name a few of the many game fish species you can catch off of Combate, Puerto Real, Rincón, and Aguadilla. This sportfishing trip is for everyone-from the whole family to seasoned big-game veterans and is the backbone of our Charter business here in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Spend a day with us in search of the many pelagic species the area has to offer. This trip is primary focused on trolling for mahi, Wahoo, King mackerel, Tuna, Marlin and more. We often combine vertical jigging during this fishing trip
What to expect on an offshore sportfishing charter.
This private fishing trip usually begins around 7:00 however every client is different, so we defiantly like to discuss what time works best for everyone. Upon meeting at the boat ramp we all go over any safety details and orient everyone with the fishing vessel. From there we have very short runs to the fishing grounds. We can be in 3000 foot of water a 1/2 mile offshore in some places near Ricon, Combate and Aguidilla. Upon arriving the search begins for bait, birds, grass or any sort of life that would likely hold gamefish. These areas often begin with seamounts and ledges that run along the outer reefs and ridges. Simply Caught generally starts off trolling with outriggers and downrigger, to space out the lines and present a school mentality to hungry predators. Once we focus in on the productive areas we circle hoping for multiple hookup that make for organized chaos on the boat. The sound of a screaming reel out of no where is super exciting
Picking Where to fish in Puerto Rico for Mahi, Marlin, Tuna, and Wahoo.
Puerto Rico’s close proximity to the mainland, tropical weather and amazing fishery make it a hot destination to anglers who like to travel. The island is located to some of the deepest water in the Atlantic Ocean which make for an abundance of marine life. Simply Caught has the unique ability to trailer to three of the four coast on any given day to make your fishing trip more successful. If you are willing to drive no more than an hour I would recommend discussing with Capt. Frank which region fits your needs best.
The North Coast is the closest point to the Puerto Rican Trench and can really drop off sharply in depth. This makes for great Marlin fishing. Some of the worlds most Prestigious Blue Marlin tournaments are held out of San Juan. Also, along the North coast is a system of FADS (fish attracting devises) set out to attract pelagic fish. These can be really productive with Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo. It is a 35 minute boat ride to get to these fishing grounds.
Along the west coast is a great reef system with lots of structure and depth changes. Many commercial fishermen from all over the island trailer here to take advantage of the deep water reef system and catch “Cartucho” or Queen Snapper. Along with the reef systems there is also a large population of Spanish Sardines. These baitfish make great live bait for Tuna fishing and many locals take advantage of this. Simply Caught Charters takes advantage off all of this and more. The West coast offers great trolling opportunities with the many seamounts, 100 fathom ledges, and calm seas. With a predominate East wind in the area the West coast is often calmer than the rest of the island, making it a great location for a charter business. 75% of our charters leave out of the Rincon Marina, Mayaguez boat ramp, or Combate public ramp. All located on the west coast.
Lastly the Southern Coast. This region is known for its Puerto Rican Mahi migrations. The depth does drop off very fast along this coast line so finding birds and bait is a must. This requires a bit more looking, running and gunning, with binoculars and miles driven. However, the catch can be very rewarding with fast fishing often times filling the cooler in less than 30 minutes. We will start by fishing small ballyhoo to hook a few fish then switching over to spin gear to “bail” the school once found. Marlin, Sailfish, and wahoo are often caught down there as well
